I Have a Secret…

I have been keeping a little bit of a secret. Some of you may know but others do not. I haven’t been keeping the secret because I wasn’t excited, but because when I let a few people in on it, it didn’t go so well which quite honestly sucked. I have decided that enough is enough.

I am pregnant! I am expecting a second baby boy and am due THIS WEEK. I have kept this secret from my business side of things because I was honestly just scared of the fallout. How could I put my family in jeopardy and lose my clients/income so easily? I couldn’t, so I kept quiet. But today, on International Women’s Day, I am owning the fact that I am a mother and really great business owner.

Before announcing this pregnancy to my extended family/friends, I actually wrote an email to all of my clients. This was back in August (I think… Thanks pregnancy brain) and a client I had recently started working with actually terminated her contract with me. This woman was a fellow business owner as well as a mother and I was shocked. Something I was so excited to share with the world quickly turned into regret.

I of course did not regret the baby, but I regretted telling my clients. I feared I wouldn’t have any income and that if I told “the world”, that I also wouldn’t have new clients knocking on my door. So, as new clients came in, I pretended that I was “normal”. I worked longer hours, taking away time from my son, to make up for the times that I was too tired or that I had doctors appointments.

Well, 2021 is off to a weird start and I have decided enough is enough. I want to celebrate this baby! I want to celebrate the fact that I run a household, am a great mom, run a successful business, and am growing a literal human being all at the same time.
